We challenge our students to be contributors to the Newman and greater communities, to develop themselves as life-long learners and leaders, and to learn to work outside their comfort zones.

Welcome!

The Middle School at Newman is a dynamic community of teachers and learners focused on meeting the needs of individual students in order to help them to become their best. We challenge our students to be contributors to the Newman and greater communities, to develop themselves as life-long learners and leaders, and to learn to work outside their comfort zones. This takes place in an environment where each student is appreciated as an individual and supported by faculty members who understand well this developmental stage in the life of a child.

Our rigorous curriculum and commitment to differentiated instruction allow us to challenge and support students, providing them with real and varied opportunities for growth in academics, the arts, and leadership. The 85% participation rate of our Middle School students in athletics is a testament to their openness to new experiences and their immersion in the leadership and collaborative opportunities that team sports present.

Anti-Defamation League through its No Place for Hate program helps our students take action to better their school. Our unique and ground-breaking involvement with the ADL’s A World of Difference Institute allows us to create and deploy a curriculum that builds empathy and is action-oriented.

Students have formal opportunities for leadership, among them being the Middle School Student Advisory Board and the Difference Committee. Informal opportunities for leadership exist through advisory and clubs, or are driven by the passions of individual students.

The dynamism of the Newman Middle School shows in the emphasis on project-based learning, the varied academic and outdoor education trips, and the service-learning opportunities. In the Newman Middle School, students truly do “learn to do by doing.”

The best way to learn about the Middle School is to experience it firsthand. Please come in for a visit!
